Five Days Of Poetry — Shorter Poems
the black birds gather in the treetops
feathers bracing
against a sudden north wind
clouds rush into the south
like scavengers chasing down
a wounded gazelle
this is the place
the merciless savannah
the sprawling city
the prairie fields
the asphalt street
the bridge
the dirt road
the red drive
the house
the walkway
the door ...
a voice in the air
warns you
do not turn the handle
do not let yourself in
but you do
you turn the handle
open the door
and step within
feathers bracing
against a sudden north wind
clouds rush into the south
like scavengers chasing down
a wounded gazelle
this is the place
the merciless savannah
the sprawling city
the prairie fields
the asphalt street
the bridge
the dirt road
the red drive
the house
the walkway
the door ...
a voice in the air
warns you
do not turn the handle
do not let yourself in
but you do
you turn the handle
open the door
and step within
