da'Shade — Check Out Checking In

Hey, what's up?

This is da'Shade ... sitting in for Kennedy James, who is on vacation.

These days, too many young people look into the future and see nothing. Instead of dreaming about what could be, they don't much dream at all.

It's one fucked up world. We feed kids way too much doom and gloom. Everywhere you turn, there's some whacked out activists telling them that this is wrong and that is wrong, and unless we do something drastic, the world is going to end in a bang. And then we're surprised when they don't accomplish fuck-all, never venture out of their rooms, or they hip-hop their way into some gang and spend their youth doing stupid shit.

It seems to me that kids think hope is like dope, like a fake buzz that lasts for a few hours and then sends them crashing back into a reality that has nothing substantial to go after. Schools teach them nothing, 'cause schools are more concerned with being politically correct than actually giving kids skills. After school, ain't no jobs, 'cept at MickeyD's where they can flip burgers, so lots of kids just don't bother. They just hang out in the parent's basement or at the 7-11 where all the other lost kids hang out too. Kids learn pretty quick that it's way easier to become passive, sit back in front of their computers or phones, and let the nutcase Gen X decide the future for them.

Something has to change. Someone has to inspire today's kids to believe that the world isn't on a suicide mission into oblivion.

Instead of just checking out and not bothering to care what the future holds, kids need to check in and become active. They need to become the architects of tomorrow, dream big, and build a world based on possibilities. But it's up to you and me to give them some nails and hammers, something to hang their hopes and aspirations on instead of proving to them, time and again, there ain't shit to hope for.

Hit that mic and help kids to be the stars ...
