Letting Go ... yet another lament for the art of rhyming ...

Letting Go ... yet another lament for the art of rhyming ...

Some people scratch an old wound just to see if it still itches,
Some believe the past is a land of jewels and untold riches,
All I ever wanted was a future of endless romance,
Now it seems our love was fool's gold and never really stood a chance.

But even though you're leaving, there's still one thing I gotta say,
You can come back any time baby, just not all the way.

Maybe I loved you too hard and maybe I loved too fast,
How was I to know your love would never last?
I built a dream around the trust I always had in you,
Seems like dreams can change forever in just a second or maybe two.

But even though you're leaving, there's still one thing I gotta say,
You can come back any time baby, just not all the way.

I took your photo off the wall but brought it out again,
I guess I'm stuck on remembering who you were back when
We were like Romeo and Juliet and all the classic lovers,
Like Hero and Leander twisting under the covers.

But even though you're leaving, there's still one thing I gotta say,
You can come back any time baby, just not all the way.

On lonely nights, I can hear the fog horn whistles moan,
Echoes in the darkness that leave me more and more alone,
And sometimes I wonder if you'll find what it is you're looking for,
I gave you all I could, I guess you needed more.

But even though you're leaving, there's still one thing I gotta say,
You can come back any time baby, just not all the way.
